MISSISSAUGA AND BRAMPTON

Why Mississauga doctors use an accountant next door in Brampton

Mississauga has one of the largest physician communities in the GTA. Trillium Health Partners runs Mississauga Hospital and Credit Valley Hospital, and around them sit family health teams, walk-in clinics, imaging centres and specialist offices along Hurontario Street, in Erin Mills and in Meadowvale. Many doctors who live in Mississauga also take shifts at Brampton Civic or Etobicoke General, so their income and their week cross city lines.

Our office is at 181 Queen St E, Unit 5, in Brampton. From Mississauga Hospital or Credit Valley it is usually 20 to 30 minutes by car on Highway 410 or Mavis Road, which makes an evening or Saturday meeting easy if you want one. Most doctors never need to come in. We meet on Teams between clinic days, files move through a secure link, and you reach the same small team every time you write.

The questions Mississauga doctors bring us are rarely about one return. A family physician in a group practice wants to know how the group's payments and shared expenses flow into her corporation. A specialist who just finished training wants to incorporate and set up payroll for a clinic assistant. A couple who are both physicians wants one plan for two corporations. Each needs the same thing underneath: clean books, a pay plan made before 31 December and a clear view of what the family keeps.

What we see most often

A Mississauga practice can look simple on the OHIP statement and still be messy underneath.

Four common problems, and what we do about each one.

  1. The problem

Group practice payments are hard to trace.

In a family health organization or a shared clinic, money arrives as group payments, bonuses and shadow billing, and expenses are split under a cost-sharing agreement. When nobody matches the statements to the bank, the corporation's income is a guess.

    The solution

    Statements matched every month

We match OHIP remittance advice and group payments to your deposits and record your share of clinic costs, so the year-end starts from real numbers.

  2. The problem

A new practice, set up in a rush.

Doctors leaving residency often incorporate quickly, then miss steps: the CPSO certificate of authorization, directing OHIP payments to the corporation, a payroll account for staff, or a sensible year-end date.

    The solution

    A set-up checklist

We walk through each step in order, coordinate with the lawyer who forms the corporation, and set up books and payroll from the first month.

  3. The problem

Two doctors, two corporations, one household.

When both spouses are physicians, each corporation is planned on its own and the household often pays more tax than it needs to, or keeps too much cash in one company.

    The solution

    One plan for the household

We plan salary and dividends for both corporations together each year, and show what each decision means for the family before December.

  4. The problem

Family on the share register without a plan.

Ontario lets certain family members hold non-voting shares in a medicine professional corporation, but dividends to them can fall under the tax on split income rules, and the usual exception for adult shareholders is not available to professional corporations.

    The solution

A check on every family dividend

Before any dividend goes to a spouse or adult child, we look at their age, role and the rules, and tell you in writing whether it works.

ANSWERS BEFORE YOU START

Common questions.

General information, not tax advice for your situation. Book 15 minutes to talk about yours.

Do you have an office in Mississauga?

No. Our office is at 181 Queen St E, Unit 5, Brampton, about 20 to 30 minutes from the Mississauga hospitals. Most doctors meet us on Teams, and you can visit by appointment.

Is the tax and estate planning session really free?

Yes. There is no cost and no obligation, and the notes are yours to keep whether or not you become a client.

How does the 50% offer work?

Send us your most recent accounting invoice for your corporate year-end, T2 and personal T1. We quote the same services at 50% off that fee, in writing, before you decide. It is for new incorporated doctor clients who sign up by 31 December 2026.

I am finishing residency. When should I incorporate?

It depends on how much you will earn, how much you need to live on and whether you will hire staff. We go through the numbers in the free session and tell you plainly if waiting makes more sense.

Can you work with my group practice's administrator?

Yes. We ask the administrator for the payment and cost-sharing reports each month or quarter, so you do not have to forward them yourself.

Does insurance come up in the session?

Only if you raise it. Chirag also founded WealthPillar Inc. and is licensed to sell life insurance in Ontario. If it comes up, he says so and tells you how he is paid. You never have to buy anything.
